ACT is proud to announce an open call audition, for performers 17 and under, for the zany and fun SEUSSICAL! The mischievous Cat in the Hat is the host of this fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza which lovingly brings to life all of our favorite Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Mayzie La Bird, and the Whos of Whoville! These classic and colorful tales are seamlessly brought together by Jojo, a young boy and “thinker of strange and wonderful thinks”! The score emerges as a Seussian gumbo of musical styles, ranging from Latin and pop, swing to gospel, and R&B to funk. So, let you toes tap, your fingers snap, and your imagination run wild!
Auditions will be held at the St. Paul's UCC Family Life and Mission Center, located at the intersection of Route 662 and Old Airport Road in Amity Township, PA. Please call 610-582-0902 or check our website (www.amitychildrenstheater.org) for audition details.
This production will be ACT’s final curtain call and will be our final show before our stage goes dark.

Character List
There are many wonderful, strong character roles in SEUSSICAL. Listed below is a brief synopsis on them.
THE CAT IN THE HAT is the essence of mischief, fun and imagination. The Cat stirs things up, causes trouble, but always sets things right again, helping JoJo to discover the power of his imagination as they create the story for the show together. Must be physically adept, able to play many comedic cameos, and be comfortable improvising with an audience. It is critical that although the Cat is mischievous, that they are able to keep a “light touch” and stay likeable to the audience.
JOJO is a "Thinker"--a smart child with a wild imagination, whose Thinks' get him into constant trouble.
HORTON THE ELEPHANT A gentle giant, rotund and appealing. He is imaginative and receptive to the world around him. He is very un-self-conscious. Horton's view of the world never changes--he believes in its goodness.
GERTRUDE McFUZZ Very self-conscious and aware that her one-feather tail isn't perfect. Gertrude changes during the show from a vain, neurotic, nervous and shy bird into one with the power to protect and care for a baby elephant bird and commit herself to Horton.
MAYZIE LA BIRD Self-centered, selfish and vain, Mayzie will never admit to her own flaws. She manipulates anyone she can into doing what she wants. But Mayzie isn't bad, more like she’s spoiled. This is a difficult role, in that the audience must still like Mayzie.
SOUR KANGAROO She isn't really sour at all. She's just got a lot of attitude. She's loud, brassy and a lot of fun. Again, the trick is keeping the audience to like her.
BIRD GIRLS – A girl group in the jungle. They are always together.
GENERAL GENGUS KHAN SCHMITZ General Schmitz is bursting with pride at the military academy he runs, and the boys he turns out. He is not sadistic, mean or abusive. He is proud! He is a comic character, because it's clear he's so misguided. He is not a bully or a villain.
THE WICKERSHAM BROTHERS These are not bad guys! They're simply a lot like kids who tease, play pranks and get a kick out of making mischief, although often at others' expense.
MR. AND MRS. MAYOR – Jojo’s parents. Very earnest. Parents trying to raise a difficult child in a difficult world (Whoville).
GRINCH – Why, he’s not really mean at all!
YERTLE THE TURTLE – Judge at Horton’s trial.
ENSEMBLE: JUNGLE CREATURES, THE WHOS, CIRCUS MCGURKIS, HUNTERS, HUNCHES...
